Garage Door Repair in Oshawa

Oshawa has some of the oldest and some of the newest homes in Durham Region, sometimes only a few kilometres apart. We work on both.

A post-war home near downtown and a 2022 build in Windfields need completely different things from a garage door tech. Broken springs, rusted cables, doors off the track, dead openers — that is our daily work in Oshawa.

What we see on Oshawa garage doors

Older homes: rust is the real problem

South and central Oshawa has a lot of homes built 40 to 70 years ago. In these garages the hardware has usually never been replaced. Cables rust from the bottom up, and once the strands start to fray, the cable can snap without warning. That is what makes a door go crooked and jam in the track.

If your garage door looks lopsided when it moves, stop using it. Running it that way bends the track and turns a small job into a big one.

Detached garages with no heat

Plenty of Oshawa homes have a separate garage at the back of the lot. No heat, no insulation, and often a very old door. Cold makes grease thicken and springs stiff, so these doors struggle every January. A proper winter lubrication service makes a real difference here.

North Oshawa new builds

Up in Windfields, Kedron and Taunton the homes are new but the doors get heavy use — often as the family's main entrance. High cycle counts wear springs out faster than the builder's estimate. We see first spring failures here around year five to seven.

Student rentals and multi-car households

Near Ontario Tech and Durham College, a lot of homes have several drivers using one door. More cycles means faster wear. If four people share your garage, treat it like a commercial door and service it every year.

Local questions

Questions from Oshawa customers

My cable snapped and the door is crooked. Can I force it down?

No. Forcing a crooked door bends the tracks and can pull the door off completely. Leave it where it is and call us.

Should I replace both springs if only one broke?

Yes, always replace both. They were installed together and have the same wear. Replacing one means the other will fail soon and you pay for a second call-out.

My opener is 20 years old. Repair or replace?

If parts are still available and the motor sounds healthy, we can often repair it. But a 20-year-old opener has no rolling-code security and usually no auto-reverse safety. Replacement is normally the smarter and safer choice.
