New Garage Door Installation
Your garage door is usually the biggest thing on the front of your house. It is the first thing anyone sees. When it is old, faded, dented or rusting at the bottom, it drags the whole house down with it.
A new door changes that immediately. And unlike most home upgrades, it pays you back.
The best-value upgrade on your house
In the 2025 Cost vs Value report from Remodeling magazine, garage door replacement ranked number one out of 28 home improvement projects, with an average return of 268% at resale. That figure has climbed steeply — it was 102.7% in 2023 and 193.9% in 2024 — and no kitchen, bathroom or deck remodel comes close. (These are US national figures, the most reliable published data. Canadian results vary by market, so we present it as an industry benchmark, not a promise.)
When replacement makes more sense than repair
We repair first wherever we can. But sometimes a door is finished:
- Panels are rusted through, rotted or badly bent.
- The door has been hit by a vehicle.
- Wood panels are swollen, split or soft.
- Repairs are stacking up and costing more than the door is worth.
- The door has no insulation and the garage is unusable in winter.
- Parts for that model are no longer available.
- You simply want the front of the house to look right.
What a new door gives you
- Warmth. An insulated door makes a real difference to an attached garage, and to the rooms above and beside it.
- Quiet. New doors with nylon rollers run far quieter than a 20-year-old door.
- Security. Modern doors and openers are much harder to force or bypass.
- Safety. Current doors are built with pinch-resistant panels and proper hardware.
- Looks. The single biggest visual change you can make to the front of a house in one day.
- Lower running costs. A balanced, insulated door is easier on the opener and on your heating.
Choosing your door
Insulation
In Ontario, insulation is not a luxury. If your garage is attached to the house, or you use it as a workshop or gym, insulated is the right choice. If it is a detached garage you only park in, an uninsulated door may be fine.
Material
Steel is what most people choose here — strong, low maintenance, handles our weather, and available in many finishes. Wood looks beautiful but needs regular upkeep in this climate.
Style
Traditional raised panel, flush modern, or carriage house style with decorative hardware. We will help you pick something that suits the age and look of your house rather than fighting it.
Windows
Windows across the top row bring daylight into the garage and soften the look of a large door. Frosted glass keeps the light without letting anyone see what is inside.
Colour
Matching or complementing your trim and front door pulls the whole front of the house together. Worth thinking about for five minutes — you will look at it every day for 20 years.
How the install works
- Site visit and measure. Opening size, headroom, side room, and the condition of the frame.
- You choose the door. Style, colour, insulation, windows. We give you a full written price.
- The door is ordered. Lead times vary by model.
- Installation day. Old door removed and taken away, new door and hardware fitted, springs sized to the new door’s weight.
- Opener check. We make sure your existing opener suits the new door, or fit a new one.
- Test and walkthrough. Balance, safety reverse, and we show you how to look after it.
